The Ideal Rep Range For Muscle Building

By Russ Howe

If you're wondering how to build muscle quickly you are in the right place. Today we are going to answer one of the most asked questions in the gym: How many reps should you do when you are trying to build size and strength?

Firstly, while you may feel like you are the only person who is lost with regards to your training you certainly are not. In fact, you probably aren't even the only one at your gym in this situation, never mind the entire world. As a fitness instructor I meet hundreds of people per week who need help, so don't for one second think you are by yourself. Today you'll learn some progress producing facts.

If you ask most men what their goal is it is usually very similar. They want to build a more powerful physique with less body fat.

In order to get the right kind of results from your workouts, however, you need to know how to force your muscles to do what you want them to do. It will not grow by itself and this is where so many people go wrong. They don't force progress, but we'll go into that a little bit later.

Depending on what results you are aiming for, one of the following two rep ranges will be suitable for you:

* Hypertrophy.

* The endurance zone.

So given the fact you're reading an article on how to gain muscle we already know that you're mainly here because you want to learn how to pack on head-turning size. This tells us you need to be primarily focusing on hitting the muscular growth zone, which means you should be trying to land each set between the eight and twelve rep mark.

The other zone we mentioned is for muscular endurance. It's suited to those looking to build stamina as well as tone up, but it will not be a fantastic way to train for those more concerned with pure strength and size. That zone is made up of sets which end in the 15-20 range.

The next time you visit your local gym or fitness center take a quick look around. You will notice that not many people are training with a specific goal in mind, despite the fact that if you ask them what they want to achieve they will be able to tell you straight away.

So you now know that the rules with weights have nothing to do with the popular gym mythologies out there. You know the ones we're talking about, right? Things such as 'high reps are just for women'. High reps are for those looking to build muscular endurance, regardless of your sex.

Before we end today's class we also want to bring your attention to a second fact. This fact is the single most important aspect of your training, without it you won't get anywhere. We are talking, of course, about steady progression. Resistance training is something which your body is built to adapt to and, as we pointed out earlier, you will need to progressively challenge yourself more in order to keep forcing results from it.

To force this change you need to consistently progress and one effective way to do that is using the 8-12 rep range. The moment you are able to perform twelve repetitions with a weight you should increase the resistance and use the system again.

You will now find results far easier to come by. It might seem rather simple, given the amount of confusion in the health and fitness industry in general, but these facts are proven and backed up by decades of scientific research. Learning how to build muscle is simple, but most people never figure it out. You now have!

How To Adapt An Action Movie Star Workout Into Your Fitness Routine

By Russ Howe

If you asked 100 men why they first joined a gym and started lifting weights, a large portion of them would reference an action movie such as Rambo as their primary influence for making the first step into the fitness community. However, dreaming of owning an action hero physique and actually doing it are two very different things, as you are about to find out when we tackle the Sylvester Stallone arm workout below.

Looking at the super lean physique you see on screen in the final product, it would be quite foolish to walk into a workout like this with ambitions of taking it easy. Use that vision of the end result as a barometer to tell you that this is going to be very tough.

One particular action star, Sylvester Stallone, is well known for his intense workout schedule and it would be ill advised to attempt a full scale workout in his style without first familiarizing yourself with the surroundings at your local gym for a few months.

This arm circuit is split into 4 stages, running through each muscle in the arm by itself to allow for greater focus on the area in question. We will cover a section for biceps, forearms, triceps and a cool down phase. Each phase is performed as a circuit four times.

Hammer Curl - 12 reps with a fairly heavy weight to get you warmed up.

Incline Bench Dumbbell Curls - Set a bench to a 45 degree angle and perform dumbbell curls, ensuring you get the twist at the top of each rep to build the peak of your biceps muscle. Shoot for 12-15 reps here.

Biceps Curl using an EZ bar - The fundamental biceps exercise, perform 12 reps using a regular grip before switching to a much harder wide grip and forcing out a few more.

Lying Cable Curl - Line a bench underneath a cable station and perform a curl down towards your head on the bench. This needs 15 reps and you might find that you need to use a lighter weight than expected, due to the constant tension of the cables and the burning in your arms at this point.

Twisting Chain Curls - Attach a free weight to a chain and hold the chain so the weight is hanging down. Now perform a curl, while twisting your palms to face away from you at the top of each rep. This engages the muscles in your biceps and forearms. Remember, the forearms are a lot smaller and the instability of a hanging plate is very noticeable, thus a lighter weight is required.

After four rounds of the biceps circuit, we move on to the second phase which focuses on our forearms in a lot more depth than most guys currently do in the gym. Try to perform 20 repetitions of Reverse Curls, Wrist Curls, Reverse Wrist Curls and Handshake Curls before finishing off by simply hanging from a pull up station for as long as possible to work on your grip strength.

The triceps section involves a few big moves to really get the blood pumping. It's the biggest muscle in this workout, so push yourself hard if you want to see an even better return on your results. The first move in this phase is Close-Grip Bench Press, which you owe 10 reps. Try to keep the elbows from flaring out as you perform this, to minimize chest and shoulder involvement.

This leads to your first encounter with Bench Dips. Perform a set to failure before switching to a cable station and pushing out 12 Triceps Pushdowns with a triangle bar. Your second round of Dips then awaits, again going to failure. This phase rounds out with 20 Dumbbell Kickbacks.

Only a cool down phase remains, but by this point in time you might be tempted to quit. That would be a bad idea, as cool downs have been shown to help prevent blood pooling and dizziness. It only consists of a Plank held t failure three times and a closing out set of close-grip push ups.

If you make it through this workout you will have a new found respect for the final physique you see on the movie screen the next time you watch a Hollywood action movie. It's simple yet brutal approach is deliberately misleading, leading many people to jump into it and regret it later on. Use lighter weights than you usually would because it is performed as a high intensity circuit, rather than a standard gym session.

The Sylvester Stallone arm workout is one of the most brutal celebrity training sessions out there and that is largely down to the man himself. After all, you wouldn't expect a Rocky-style training session to be anything too easy.

Foam Pool Floats Are Fun For All

By Amanda Baird

Now that the long hot summer days are here, and the children are away from school people tend to think how to fill the days. No summer would be complete without trips for swimming. Even if you have children who are unable to swim at the moment help is at hand. It involves making use of foam pool floats.

Many will agree that getting confidence in the water is the biggest hurdle a person has to cross. That is where these items come into play. Their bright colours are associated with fun things. As a result they are not viewed with any trepidation by the child, and so the child tends to feel more relaxed and confident.

Everything becomes a game, and so water becomes linked with fun and games. Unlike their blow-up counterparts these units cannot be punctured and start to deflate at the most inconvenient of times. Due to the material that they are made from they are naturally buoyant, and so make a wonderful buoyancy aid for those who are less that confident in water.

During the long hot days of summer the water does seem very appealing. You will notice people in and out of the water enjoying themselves, but there will also be others who are only paddling. Sometimes people see the inability to swim as a bit of a stigma, but are reluctant to use armbands or rings, but other devices can be used.

Maybe you will have seen small children wearing a buoyancy jacket. These jackets can have buoyancy aids fitted into different chambers. As the child gets more water confidence the aids can be removed one at a time. In time all that is left is the jacket on its own and the child is happily floating and swimming without any assistance.

An older child, or even an adult, might prefer to utilise something called a noodle. These are long thin floatation aids. They can be used by laying them across the chest and under the armpits in a 'U' shape. Dependent upon how much buoyancy is needed the number of noodles can vary. As the person is now supported they can now enjoy getting totally wet.

Not everything poolside revolves around swimming, sometimes people want to just relax. Many will remember the old style inflatable air mattresses. Now there are vinyl coated rafts of varying sizes, some also have a very convenient head rest built into them for additional comfort. They can be used either in the water or on dry land.

Another thing to help with a hard days lazing is a floating tray. This will have been created in the same way as the raft. They are big enough to be useful, but small enough to prevent them being constantly in the way.

As you will agree these foam pool floats may be used in many different ways. With their bright cheerful colours any trip involving swimming will now have a fun filled party atmosphere. Due to their construction they are very hard wearing, and you will gain years of use from each piece. They can help people become swimmers which in turn might even save a life.

Summer Pool Party Games For Kids

By Gloria Mason

When the hot summer days set in, the first escape most think of is the water. It is time to break out those floating toys, put on a favorite swimming suit, pour up some cool drinks and make the most of the sunny weather. When there are a lot of young people to cater too, try playing creative pool party games for kids.

Water and children are as natural a combination as cookies and milk. Beginning as toddlers in a tub, they quickly learn to splash around and enjoy the fun of sloshing and swimming. Having some group play with their friends encourages team work and cooperation all while having an amazing time laughing and being young.

The old time classics are still some of the favorites in many pools today. It is almost a rite of passage to play a game of Marco Polo when growing up and many still enjoy it as adults. It is always a thrill to respond "Polo!" to the unsighted it-person's "Marco!" while racing around and trying to avoid being tagged.

Chicken fights are yet another classic favorite that has a larger thrill element and should be reserved for teens or older children. It requires all players to split off into pairs with one in the water supporting their partner on their shoulders. The point of the game is for all the top people to try and wrestle their opponents off their bottoms and the last couple standing are declared the winners.

Creating a whirlpool is best played in rounded pools that have a constant depth and is a great way to get all the children working together as a team. Start them moving around the sides in the same direction, like a train that starts slow and increases speed with each lap. Before long they will be going to fast that the water takes over and begins to move on it's own, allowing the youngsters to lift their feet and enjoy the ride until the momentum winds down.

Jousting is yet another very entertaining competition that gets everyone playing together. They mount inflatable rafts to serve as horses, paddle out to meet each other and then use foam swimming noodles to try and unseat their opponent. Depending on how many are in attendance, this can be done as an all in type of deal or as an elimination game with those on the sideline cheering.

Rafts and air filled inner tubes are also great vehicles for a variety of relay races. In one version, everyone splits into two teams, dividing each in half and going to opposite ends of the course. The first players from each group mount the inflatables and paddle as fast as possible to their teammate waiting on the other side, switch places and repeat this until everyone has crossed the water and those who complete the task the quickest are the victors.

Entertaining the children during the heated summer days is actually quite an easy process. Allowing them to gather together to partake of some classic pool party games for kids is a great option. The old favorites are still as much fun as they always were, especially when some new innovative twists are added.

The 3 Secrets To Every Effective Diet

By Rey Vetangelo

The decision to undergo any form of voluntary surgery is a major decision that should be weighed and investigated completely before going through with the procedure. The decision to undergo weight loss surgery is equally as important and should be treated with the same care and consideration that one would place on other forms of surgery.

Undergoing weight loss surgery is a major step in life, and for that reason a person who is considering the surgery should find out all they can about the procedure before submitting their selves to the operating table. Weight loss surgery hold many benefits for those who do choose to undergo its treatment, but most of the time the decision to undergo such a procedure should only be made as a last ditch effort to control one's weight.

Bodily efficiency influences how fast you digest foods as well as how well you burn fats. Each mineral and vitamin is provided by a different natural element, e.g. meats, dairy, plants, vegetables, carbohydrates, and even sugar. Your body works best when these minerals and vitamins are balanced. The key to balancing your mineral and vitamin intake is to carefully plan what you eat.

While most individuals can successfully lose the weight the desire through these and other conventional methods, there are still those people who cannot seem to lose their excess weight or maintain a healthy weight. For these individuals, weight loss surgery may be the only way for them to slim down to healthy levels and see the results they have been working towards.

Preparing for a weight loss procedure is a crucial step for these individuals who have tried every other conventional way to lose weight without success. By preparing for the upcoming procedure, a person undergoing weight loss can help themselves in both the recovery process and before the surgery is performed.

Or maybe you eat fast food often because you are almost always on-the-go. We all have our weaknesses when it comes to eating, so try to figure out a few of yours. You may even find that you have certain emotions tied to the idea of eating. Maybe you eat when you are bored, angry, or depressed.

The next step for the individual will be to find a bariatric surgeon. Bariatric surgeons, or weight loss surgeons, can be found in most areas, but choosing the right surgeon is a very important step in the process of preparation.

What happens next is the person slips up and has one of the forbidden foods. Many times, that person will think all hope is lost and that they have failed at their diet.

The last step to preparing for a weight loss surgery will be to continue to strive to be healthy both before and after the surgery. While many individuals find their bariatric surgery to be a great success, the ability to continue healthy practices following the surgery will be critical in the recovery of the surgery and in staying healthy for years after the surgery.

Easy Solutions In Regard To Diet Plans

By Ron Stucky

When it comes to choosing a diet plan, it can be as difficult as sticking with the one you choose. The problem is, there are thousands of diets to choose from, and they often contradict each other, so how do you know who to believe? The following are some of the advantages and disadvantages of some well known diets to help you find the right one.

Some of the best known diets are low carb, high protein, like the Atkins diet. These diets state that carbohydrates are the main reason you gain weight and that eating more lean protein helps you burn fat more efficiently. Eating only a few carbs leaves some people with low energy, but others do well with this kind of diet. For those who have trouble sticking to the traditional low carb diets, try a modified one like the Zone diet, which still limits your intake of carbs but offers a wider variety of foods. These diets work better for some than others, so it depends on how well your body responds to it.

Detoxification of your system through internal cleansing is also a great way to begin to shed the extra pounds. Master Cleanse, as well as Natural Cleanse, are great choices when looking at juice fasting options. In the long-term, you will see beneficial results in regard to your health with the added benefit of losing weight during the process.

Dieting that works, research has shown, must accompany sleeping enough each day plus reducing stress levels. Continually being stressed, and a perpetual lack of sleep, can lead to an inability to shed the excess weight. As you know, the more stressed out you are, the more likely you are to gain weight which can also affect your metabolism levels.

So you should do everything you can to reduce stress in your life and get enough rest. You will only achieve your ideal weight, and also maintain your weight loss program, if you become more relaxed everyday. Once you decide upon a dieting system to help you lose weight, always be aware of useful and not so useful aspects before you start. Of course, there are so many diets to choose from, we've barely scratched the surface. New diets are introduced practically every day. If you have not made your mind up on what dieting system to utilize, start off slow by making sure you exercise regularly, and limit your meals in size but not in nutritional value.

Improving Skills At The San Francisco Baseball Academy

By Gloria Mason

Baseball has been a famous sport for over a century. Little kids often times have big dreams of one day becoming a professional player. Although, the odds of entering the big leagues is not very good, by practicing and understanding the game as much as possible, a person will drastically increase the chances of reaching their dreams. To do this for their children, many parents enroll their kids into the San Francisco Baseball Academy.

Two private lessons are two on one sessions. What that means is that two coaches will be working with one child. The classes will be either one half hour in length or one hour. This will depend on what type of classes were signed up for. Students who are signed up for either class will receive the same attention as each other. The only difference will be the length of the classes. Even though some may only need the half hour sessions, taking part in the full one hour classes will give a student more time to practice and learn the essential skills that they need to be the best that they can be.

When someone is enrolled, baseball experts who work at the facility will develop a plan for the individual to improve their performance. Parents are welcomed to work with the trainer to help them learn more about the child's good and bad habits. Strengths and weaknesses will all be noted in order to pinpoint the best techniques for the individual.

There are classes for individuals of all ages at the academy. They are set up to work with preschool kids all the way up to high school kids and beyond. The strategy and skills that are taught will depend on the individual student's skills and what their age is. For example, preschool kids will learn what the ball, bat and gloves are for. They will also get to use these items to get used of using them. High school aged students will of course have different type of sessions.

Children who are in the elementary school age bracket will learn the physical demands of the game. They'll learn things such as how to slide into bases, both head first and feet first. Coaches will also note their best strengths and help them them improve on those strengths.

Middle school aged students will learn the mental and psychological aspects of the game. They will learn that outwitting your opponent is very strategic to win games. Kids are taught that the game is a team sport and not an individual sport. They will learn the importance to work as a team.

Once kids are of high school age, they will usually know what position they are comfortable playing at. They will practice defensive strategies of that position and will learn how important it is to stay in shape. Their job on the team will be more understood.

The San Francisco Baseball Academy has batting cages that will be useful to anyone who wants to rent one. Pitchers will also find the pitching tunnel useful to practice throwing the ball. No matter what a person needs, the academy has everything possible for a person to improve their game.
